De Wingerd is an environmental and education centre at ’t Loo, a wonderful natural garden in Bergeijk (Noord Brabant). In recent years it has developed into an easy-to-access centre that welcomes a large number of visitors. As its popularity has risen, so too has its educational role and range of activities, a development set to continue in the near future. To provide fitting accommodation for these tasks, the board of ’t Loo Nature Garden decided to renovate and extend the education and meeting centre so that the new facility can welcome visitors and host courses and educational activities.
In the design, the existing small building is preserved and incorporated as a house-in-a-house inside the new structure of timber rafters. The pavilion opens to the garden and blends naturally into its surroundings thanks to its grey larch facade cladding and roof of timber tiles. Most of the construction work was carried out by volunteers.
